It seems like every job description now mentions React (or Vue, or something similar).
The truth is, there are a lot more jobs looking for React experience than vanilla JS right now. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible! Here are some good places to look…
- We Work Remotely is a job board for remote work, and a lot (but by no means all) of the jobs there are framework agnostic.
- My friend Tim Kadlec just launched his web performance job board, PerfWork, and no surprise, a lot of the jobs there are vanilla HTML/CSS/JS oriented.
- WordPress roles. While WordPress has gotten a little Reacty with the Gutenberg editor, most WordPress work is still just HTML, CSS, PHP, and a dabbling of jQuery or vanilla JS.
The industry is starting to swing back to server-side rendering, too, so I expect we’ll see a lot more roles for static site generators and tools like Svelte and Astro in the next year or three.
