Unleash the ADHD kraken!

Of all the ADHD traits, hyperfocus is by far one of the most powerful.

ADHD hyperfocus is like a more intense version of flow or being in the zone. When you’re in it, you can absurdly productive.

It’s not just that you work longer or harder. It’s almost like you’re unlocking more of your brain. An hour of ADHD hyperfocus time can be as productive as 4 hours or more of “normal” time.

It’s extremely powerful, but it’s also not always predictable. You can’t just turn hyperfocus on like a light switch.

A few years back, Jesse Anderson shared a list of the four things that trigger motivation or interest in an ADHD brain…

  1. Novelty
  2. Interest
  3. Challenge
  4. Urgency

You can’t just unleash your hyperfocus kraken whenever you want. But if you can tap into one or more of those four elements, you can certainly encourage it to show up!

In a series of future articles, we’ll look at each of those, and how to weave them into your work and life.
