Stop complying

A few days ago, I watched this awesome video from things your mom should have told you about resisting fascism regimes.

The main thesis is that under capitalism, where work is required to eat, have a home, have healthcare, and other essentials, participating in strikes and walkouts isn’t really an option for a lot of folks.

Keena shares some great, actions things you can do despite that. The tl;dr version:

  1. Mutual aid. Any sort of “making people’s lives better outside of capitalism” subverts the goals of modern fascism.
  2. Research. If you’re good at this sort of thing, researching organizations that support of profit from modern fascist governments and publicizing it so that others can boycott, strike, and take other actions is very helpful. You don’t have to be on the front lines to do good!
  3. Share info. Publish blog articles, zines, newsletters, or videos. Give in-person workshops. Offer non-commercial alternatives to the consumer-driven algorithm that drives so much of our lives.
  4. Create art. Resistance art is important. If you’re artistic (or just enjoy it), create pictures, sculptures, memes, or whatever that offer a counter-perspective to AI and modern authoritarianism.

If any of this sounds interesting, go watch the whole video. It’s full of lots of useful little bits of advice in under 15 minutes.
