Not everyone will like you

I often describe myself as an acquired taste.

I hit it off with some people right way. Instant bond. But a lot of people find me to be… a lot.

Too loud. Too outspoken. Too passionate. Just overall too much.

As an ADHDer, you might do one of two things about this…

  1. Mask, or hide the stuff about yourself that many people don’t like and try to “act normal.”
  2. Be yourself, and accept that a big chunk of people won’t like you for who you are.

For years, I tried option 1. And to be honest, it worked a bit, but not as well as I’d hoped.

When you’ve got this much energy, it’s really hard to keep it contained, so sometimes it slips out, and the mask falls down. And feeling inauthentic is exhausting. It makes you feel like shit.

So sometime years ago, I said “fuck it” and decided to just lean fully into being me.

There’s a lot of people who don’t like me for who I am… and a lot of people who do!

The thing that’s awesome about being yourself is that once you do, you start to find the folks who really like you for you.

It’s not easy, but I think it’s worth it!
