Boulders and pebbles
I like to think of my tasks as boulders (the big stuff) and pebbles (the little stuff).
Imagine you have a boulder perched at the top of a hill. In front of it, there are a bunch of smaller rocks. Some are really tiny. Some are bigger, but not boulder-sized.
Trying to push that boulder over all over those rocks can be nearly impossible.
But if you remove a bunch of the smaller rocks, the boulder might just start rolling down the hill by itself, an unstoppable force that plows through everything else on the way down.
When you’re struggling to get started because you’re having a bees in your head kind of day, start removing those small pebbles.
Once you do, the bigger rocks are easier to take out. And once those are gone, that big boulder can just roll down on its own.
