A simpler way to build for the web

Most of the recent articles, conferences talks, and social media think-pieces on web development would have you believe that modern web development is really complicated. And it can be!

But it doesn’t have to be. Over-engineering is a choice we’ve made as an industry.

I’ve spent the last decade of my professional life advocating for a simpler and more resilient way to build things for the web. It’s better for our users, and it’s often better for us as developers, too.

There are fewer things to maintain, fewer things to break, and fewer hurdles to getting started in the first place. You can get a lot done with vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and maybe a static site generator or small build tool.

Want to learn how?

I just launched (again) the Lean Web Club, a collection of short, focused tutorials and projects on a simpler approach to building for the web. You can get instant access to 317 tutorials, 43 Projects, and one awesome developer community.

Join today for free and start your 7 day free trial. After that, it’s just $9 a month.

The Lean Web Club itself is very much an app, built with a static site generator, mostly static HTML, and a simple index.php authentication file. It’s fast, resilient, and even works offline!

I’ll be creating some tutorials on how I built it for the Lean Web Club soon.

In the meantime, head over to LeanWebClub.com to start your free trial.
